Atât aplicațiile PokerStars cât și cele ale companiei 888poker au fost eliminate de pe magazinul iTunes din Australia, guvernul i-a cerut lui Apple să elimine aplicațiile deoarece pokerul online este considerat ilegal în Australia, chiar dacă pariurile sportive online sunt legale.
Eliminarea aplicațiilor a venit ca o surpriză pentru utilizatori, din moment ce nu a existat nicio declaraţie oficială din partea lui Apple sau a operatorilor de poker cu privire la acest lucru. Jocul de poker online pe laptop-uri a fost blocat pentru o perioadă folosindu-se blocarea ISP, dar versiunile de mobil au fost disponibile până în această săptămână.

Both PokerStars and 888poker apps have been removed from the iTunes store in Australia, the government had requested Apple remove the apps as online poker is regarded as illegal in Australia, even thou online sports betting is legal.
The removal of the apps came as a surprise to users as there was no official statement from Apple or the poker operators that this was happening. Playing online poker on laptops has been blocked for some time using ISP blocking but the mobile versions were available up until this week.
The move is believed to be an attempt by the government to bring in legal online poker among other games and so encourage overseas operators to apply for a license to provide online gaming in Australia.
Interestingly online poker players can still use the Android poker app by both operators as the games cannot be blocked using the same strategy. So if this move by the government will encourage operators to license is questionable.
